What Makes Dental Exams So Important?

What Makes Dental Exams So Important? Many people only make appointments to see their dentist or their doctor when they have a problem. What people don't realize is that if you wait until you have a problem the problem has to be fixed. Sometimes that is a very simple and inexpensive fix, but some problems will end up costing you far more in time, misery, and money than you had expected.

The reason we counsel our patients to make regular visits is that, especially with dentistry, we can usually spot a problem that could become serious and expensive long before that happens.

What Can You Prevent?
When we perform a routine exam we take x-rays. These x-rays can show up the beginning of tooth decay before even we can see it with all of our tools. When we see the beginnings of decay, it is usually a quick, easy, and inexpensive fix to get your teeth back to optimal health.

We can also spot the beginnings of gum disease. Gum disease is serious and can cause your teeth to become loose or even fall out. It can also lead to infections that can get into your bloodstream and cause you medical problems. When we spot the start of gum disease, we can treat it. We will also discuss your oral hygiene habits or even your diet to determine changes you may need to make to avoid gum disease in the future.

Your mouth is filled with bacteria and the warm, moist and dark environment is the perfect place for it to grow. A dental exam can spot many problems that could require a visit to your medical doctor. We can spot thrush, oral cancer and other medical problems that you won't otherwise know you have. Please call us for an appointment. We recommend twice yearly exams, but even once a year is better than waiting until you have symptoms that you can detect.
